Charter Amendment 4

ALACHUA COUNTY CHARTER AMENDMENT 4
Title: County commission district residency requirements
Summary: Shall the Alachua County Charter be amended to remove the current unenforceable requirement to reside within the district on the date of qualification.
YES for approval _______
NO for rejection _______

Explanation:

Currently, the County Charter requires candidates for the County Commission to live within the district that they desire to represent before being elected. This requirement has been declared unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court.

Amendment 4, if approved, will make our county charter consistent with state law. Candidates will live within the district they represent during their term in office.
